LEOTEK, a subsidiary of LITEON Technology Corporation, has recently participated in a carbon verification project led by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). The project, which involves collaboration between industry and government, aims to enhance Taiwan’s carbon accounting capabilities. On August 1st, LEOTEK hosted a certification ceremony to present the project’s achievements, attended by Deputy Director Junjie Lai of the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and representatives from six institutional bodies, including ITRI, Precision Machinery Research & Development Center, Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Testing Center, Taiwan Commodity Inspection & Verification Center, Metal Industries Research & Development Centre, and the China Productivity Center.
In recent years, LITEON has actively promoted a global green supply chain strategy, launching the “555 Carbon Reduction Action” to achieve three major goals: a 5% annual reduction in carbon intensity, a 5% reduction in the carbon footprint of the next generation of products, and net-zero emissions by 2050. Through its subsidiary LEOTEK, LITEON has further strengthened various carbon verification tasks, fostering a robust carbon verification ecosystem in Taiwan to assist local businesses in transitioning to low-carbon operations.
LITEON has integrated its business units to pursue the group’s green goals, with LEOTEK representing the “electronic component manufacturing industry” in the Bureau of Standards’ carbon verification project. LEOTEK has supported ITRI in obtaining TAF greenhouse gas verification body accreditation, thereby bolstering Taiwan’s national carbon accounting capacity. Sam Chiu, General Manager of LITEON, emphasized, “The future will be driven by green resilience. To address climate change and achieve ‘net-zero emissions by 2050,’ we must collectively leverage our influence. LITEON is not only focusing on carbon reduction research and technology but also helping industries build their carbon reduction capabilities and competitiveness. This collaboration with the Bureau of Standards to enhance ‘carbon verification’ capabilities is a perfect example of industry-government partnership.”
As a key player in facilitating this industry-government collaboration for carbon accounting, LEOTEK has been actively promoting urban carbon reduction. The company has reduced global urban road lighting electricity consumption by over 30% through high-efficiency LED lighting and has driven the green supply chain with “Life Cycle Design.” LEOTEK’s General Manager, Hai-tao Jin, stated, “LEOTEK’s long-term global deployment in street lighting systems and traffic signal infrastructure means that the success of the green supply chain will be crucial for business survival. From development, design, manufacturing, to last-mile logistics, and returns and recycling, LEOTEK rigorously implements SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Under LITEON’s policy, LEOTEK aims to double the number of companies in its green supply chain assistance program this year.”
To further its carbon reduction goals, LEOTEK has embraced the circular economy concept, continuously optimizing green design throughout the product life cycle. For example, in supply chain logistics, LEOTEK introduced packaging recycling in 2013, using 100% recycled pulp and creating a “shared box” system that ensures a single box is used from supplier shipment, assembly, to export, achieving a 400% usage rate for cartons. In product design, LEOTEK has pioneered “100% non-chromium processes,” aiming for zero pollution, zero waste, and zero landfill. Recently, LEOTEK successfully promoted “green production” to suppliers in the Middle East, aiming to build an international green supply chain and export Taiwan’s successful experiences globally.
